the earth is spinning
as she's dancing;
she's grinning
and prancing,
but not romancing

the money keeps flying
but her clothes are on;
they're all lying,
sanity long gone;
it's half past dawn

the whistles keep coming
from men down below
their mouths keep running,
oh, don't they know?
she's got nowhere to go.

"rapunzel, rapunzel,
let down your long hair!"
her curls are in a bundle,
but she just won't share;
it wouldn't be fair.

she's not coming down,
for she is too keen
to drop her nightgown
onto the grass so green;
men can be so mean.

she's never left the tower,
but she already knows
that they only want her
when she's not wearing clothes;
that's how the story goes.

so rapunzel will wait
for a sky that's not gray;
when her prince opens the gate,
and whisks her away;
for more than a day.
