P.S. Daddy Loves You

poetry picture

P.S. Daddy Loves You
By Samuel K. Byrd

Those twinkle in your eyes even the way that you talk
Your crooked lil’ smile down to your bow legged walk

When I look at you, it's so easy to see
Why so much of you can be found in me

Been there since day one, from conception to birth
I'll never leave your side unless driven by hearse

And if me and your moms don't work out
Know daddy loves you, something you should never doubt

Cause you're my seed, the only thing I live for
And before you go without daddy's kicking in doors

But hopefully it won't come to that
Cause if I'm locked up how can daddy have your back

I want to be there for your graduation
And if you so choose, when you leave to fight for the nation

You can talk to me about the birds and the bees
And If you choose to hustle, I'll teach you how to stack that cheese

I'll always try to answer questions you have about life
Like, "Daddy, why is mom no longer your wife"

Why do the police harass me when I'm out with friends
And even though I loved her, why did it have to end

All the answers I may not know but I'll do my best
To make sure you're safe and a have place for your head to rest

So no need to worry or ever feel blue
Just know you got me and daddy loves you

I want to give you something that my old man never had
And that's a reason for you to be proud to call me dad
