Bud

Imagination's picture
poetry picture

Past millions of the flowers that so staunchly
Stand past thousands of the rivers filled with
Sand down all the canyons cracked and rugged
Like an egg of which a dinosaur has hatched

No one can stop you now
No one can halt you now
No one can keep you from your journey

You are an impervious
Streak of sparkling dust
Too fast for me to see
Too swift for me to fasten

My hands upon
You slip
Through my fingers
Not unnoticed

Winding through blades of grass
Green swords tipped with ladybugs
Red dresses studded with onyx
Gems snakes hidden crouching low
Slithering to where mice go

No one can stop you now
No one can halt you now
No one can keep you from your journey

Like the spider spits
Out its carcasses
Unwanted, poisoned, blackened

Empty shells without the lifeblood
Fragile wings are shattered

Dashing through the cobalt waves through
Ivory droplets of foam falling on
The smoothness of your back
You open
Your mouth
You let in
The sea
You devour
Its secrets

Unwillingly you summon the swirling sands to your unebbing command

No one can stop you now
No one can halt you now
No one can keep you from your journey

Wings extending from your back you
Are the dragonfly today with
Bug eyes bug legs bug abdomen not
A heart not a brain just buzzing

Flit here flit there find truth but where
What hits with force your beauteous carapace
And makes it glint and shine like diamonds?

Oh, the sun above
With grinning love
Shines down upon your splendor

No one can stop you now
No one can halt you now
No one can keep you from your journey

So grow from seed to root to stem
To bud to flow'r to bloom
And when your petals fall to the earth
And the rains drench you to your core

You will just keep going and growing
Until you reach the now of yore

But now
Now you're a bud
that must yet
Unfurl and

Bloom
