I can't remember the first poem I wrote but writing poetry has opened me up.

a few years ago, I was in an abusive relationship... when I finally got out of it, I was so depressed that I had thoughts of killin myself... that man had mentally destroyed me, however he didn't spiritually break me... I went to my mentor in my church and I told him about these thoughts I had... he told me that he's felt the same way before, but what brought him out of that was writing all those emotions out on paper... so I started writing letters, then those letters turned into poems... every since then, I've been writing down how I feel about myself, my situations, and random things... writing just makes me feel better cauz I can get things off my chest and be creative at the same time... I feel blessed to have this gift and I can only thank God for bringing me out!!

in 5th grade, I wrote cute, funny, Shel Silverstein-esque poems. Then I grew out of it for awhile and started writing poetry again in 8th. Unfortunately I got rid of all my poems last summer after someone read some REALLY personal, really depressed ones and didn't start again until last March.

Started rapping in 7th grade because someone had told me i was good but only did it for half of that year. Throughout the rest of that year, I just spit trash. During the beginning of 2008, I was going back to writing but only wrote about 5 of them that are now currently lost. In the summer of 2008, I was going through a serious phase of "I Hate The World" and that's when I started writing a bit more seriously. I thought this was the only way of expressing myself. Why? I had anger problems so i secretly took therapy, took drugs, talked to friends but none of it helped and one day I was so mad, I wrote a poem named Diary which contains lots of hateful things but I felt sad while i was writing it. After writing about it, I actually felt a bit better. There was something about it that made me feel better whenever something happens. I wrote more seriously since then and saved them so that i could look back at them in the future and see if my life has progressed at all or to see if things are still the same. i write less because I feel less hatred against people because I now have the I-don't-give-a-fuck-about-anything attitude but I'm still going to keep on writing forever...

You want to know? It's quite a strange story actually.
Me and my friends, X and Y, were sitting in the Cafe at our school a little before the Christmas holidays. We were talking about vengeance on the teachers. I mentioned that we should pair the teachers up on Valentines day, they laughed but nothing more was really said of it...

...Until January

I was at my friend Y's house doing nothing more than watching TV, we were rather bored. I was thinking of what we could do, and suddenly remembered my idea.

Y couldn't think of anything else to do and it would be a laugh so we started to find materials, pink paper, glitter etc. I suggested we should probably write it on the computer, as handwriting is a dead giverway. Y warned that they didn't have much ink left, so we rethought and decided to only do one. I'm not quite sure how it came about, but we started writing a poem, not to pair anyone up, just one Valentines poem. Would you like to hear our finished masterpiece?

Well, here we go...

To my darling Jon,

I want to be your Juliet, and you my Romeo.
I dream that I am the cream in between your Oreo.
but sadly I know that this dream can never be,
cause' you are wed to somebody that sadly isn't me.
I watch you with my weeping eyes,
when i see your wife, can't help but cry,
cause' you, you are the world to me,
I love you, i wish that you could see
that every day my heart is breaking
im fed up with all my love your taking
each day i love life less and less,
and i just can't deal with all this stress,
and while writing this poem, i now know
its not to you my love should go
but my heart is broken beyond repair,
and now im in complete despair
in my hand i hold a knife
and have now decided to take my life
and now one thing before i die,
this entire poem has been a LIE!!!

Hehe :)

Well, on the afternoon of Wednesday the 11th of February 2009 (The only day we had a lesson with him that was closest) our highly trained employees were standing guard all the way down the corridors and on the stairs, alas, we had no walkie talkies, but we just came up with an equally effective warning someone was coming.

"CA CAW! CA CAW!"

Quickly, we rushed out of our English room, the letter safely placed on his desk. And everything pretty much ran smoothly from then. It was hilarious.

But how we started writing poetry?

This happened after he found out it was us, he said he was very impressed with it, and "the best laugh he'd had in 3 years" :P. He asked if we wrote poetry alot, and Y said; "Yes we do, we meet in an English room every wednesday lunch, we have a book full of them". He wanted to come to one of these meets and see the book.

&%#*!!!!

So as fast as we could in the space of 4 days, we started writing, 3, 4, 5 poems a day from all three of us. While doing this, we realised we actually quite enjoyed writing poetry. We ended up with a rather full poem book.

I won't go into the rest of the story, because although it was highly entertaining, it's not answering the question.

So, that's how we started writing poetry.

I started writing because a friend told me to go see a psychiatrist,
the psychiatrist told me to keep a journal and one day i just started to write poetry instead of 'blogs' about my day.

it made me feel much better because I've always had a problem letting my emotions out and it helped me really feel what I was thinking, even if I couldn't say it out loud, my hands allowed me to write it down.

I was thirteen back then. It came out of the blue one day when a friend of mine acted like a jerk. So I was thinking ways to be sarcastic indirectly. But as the years go on, I get better and poetry becomes part of my life.
