As The World Turns

AS THE WORLD TURNS
By Samuel K Byrd
Mysteries of the universe, answers floating in space
Can't see the forest for the trees with branches hitting you in the face
In search of a better way, a better day, a better place to stay
Pop a pill, smoke some hay, brain lies dormant like a hibernating bear
From November to May
Bitches, hoes, niggers, spies
Crackers, chinks, gooks, and hicks
Souls bought and sold with a hit of the pipe or turn of a trick
Slowly tearing down self respect brick by brick
"Ladies and Gentlemen God has left the building!" That was a long time ago
Leaving his creatures to roam aimlessly to and fro All shouting his name but has their own agenda though Big church takes little church that's how the story go
Brothers and sisters with confused sexuality Running from pillar to post trying to escape a fucked-up reality HBO and BET has replaced the bible as a source for morality In order to change your life you must first change your mentality
Does advertising work? Just ask A.A.
Better yet ask Budweiser, their stock is up 3 points today
"Have you driven a Ford lately?"
Into the back of a Coors truck while drunk on the highway
3 little black girls trapped in a burning house die 2 teens shot, victims of inner city homicide Black schools are failing, no one bats an eye
"This just in"
A little white girl has been missing for an hour and the Whole country wants to know the hows and'whys
My world, your world, one the same
My fault, your fault, let's not play that game
Search for a better way? Only if you can claim the fame
Because what difference will you have made unless everyone
Knows your name.

Amazing work of Art!
You nail society to the wall with this poignant expression. I love this poem for it's strong message. Impeccably delivered with emotion and grit. You touch on so much here and it all flows well, the rhyme is nice, tone is awesome and most of all if the truth hurts say Ouch! This would be an excellent Open Mic piece right here. Hard hitting, Love it. This brings to mind a piece I wrote last year, "Art of Righteous Rebellion" it's posted on here, check it out when time permits.
