We Made It
Baby we made it
Through the traps and trenches
And ditches they put in front us
Trying to destroy and end us
All at once
Our ancestors once slave breaking their backs in the cotton fields
Now because of that I can have a bounty meal
Martin Luther King
Made us kings
Malcolm X
Put a X on the racist sects
Baby we made it through the sufferage
Where a women dying in the streets couldn't get any coverage
The great women before like Harriet Tubman paved the way to greatness
Now I am proud to be women and stand
Baby we made it
We made it because they were strong
The battle may have been long
But through those earthy slave songs
I can now ring this gong
Baby we made it
Through oppression
And pain
We can be what we want to be
We can lead a symphony
We can go to college and study
Baby we made it
Ain't you proud that "freedom rang?"
