“Sanity”
My sanity is slowly fading
My reality growing dim
What is real anymore I do not know
I look at this page and wonder
Is this all real
Is this all a dream
Takes a hit of my cigarette
Blows out the smoke from my lungs
This is the medicine that I need
My pen in hand
Words pouring from my mind
The poet doing what she does best
Isolated in her own world
Writing and being free to express herself
No fear or pain
Only joy to bring
What darkness can be found from these words?
Takes another puff from my cigarette
This is the medicine that I need
Angry from the loss of my fellow friends
Madden by the four walls that I am supposed to belong to
My words my only friend
My only sanity
My only refuge
Finding my peace within
Takes a drag from my cigarette
This is the medicine that I need
Walks the halls of my lonely mind
Wondering what I will find
Forgotten etchings on the walls
The dancing child that sways in the corner
The true madness that is within
Where shall I find my sanity?
Written high above the walls for all to see
Or on the floor for all to walk on
Takes the final drag of my cigarette
Yes… this is the medicine that I need….
