Tribute J Dilla

PrintPrint

I was inspired by the spirit of J Dilla.  I have listened to countless tracks of his over the years.  What stood out for me wasn’t only his beats, but his humble personality.  My perception of him was that he wasn’t a look at me producer, seeking the attention and fame of success.  He let his beats do the talking.  He is in the same mold of another Detroit legend, Barry Sanders.  Both were crafty, had impeccable
vision and were undeniably creative.  However, JD may be another year gone, but his memory will forever live on. This one is for you James Yancey.

Poem:

This could be considered an ode/ to a renowned soul, known all over the globe/ beats were science, arrangements sequenced in code/ this for Yancey, who kept it gritty or fancy, a DJ and MC, who carried the load/ the king should dawn the robe/ showed us a road/ to follow/ fashion a style, build a model/ to express our soul/ out of the slums, the ghetto/ delightful derivatives dawning from the D,  dynamo/ didn’t know, how influential/ his instrumentals/ were musical crescendos/ applied pressure to the points, elevated our temples/ light reflected in our mental/ take pleasure writing to his joints, blazed the pad with a pen or pencil/ no need to check his credentials/ a legend, in the fabric of history, permanently stenciled/ once in a lifetime, memorable/  J Dilla, style impeccable/ we still in denial over your death, but all you’ve left, incredible/ one of the greatest of all time, undisputable
